Small Shifts Community CIC

Applied physiology for everyday life, helping people feel calmer, clearer, and more capable by supporting the body systems that influence stress, focus, and recovery.

Why This Matters

Many people live with constant stress, fatigue, tension, low confidence, or discomfort that makes everyday life harder. These challenges sit beneath behaviour, shaping a person’s ability to work, learn, parent, or take part in community life.

But access to support isn’t equal. One in four adults can’t get the help they need, and people in the most deprived communities are twice as likely to experience poor health but least likely to receive timely support.

Most services try to change behaviour.
We support the physiological state that behaviour comes from.

By improving the body’s ability to regulate stress, energy, and clarity, people gain a stronger foundation for daily life and for engaging with the services around them.

We work with the physiology that shapes stress responses, energy, sleep, clarity, and emotional regulation. Using simple breath, micro-movement, and interoception practices, we help people reduce stress, stabilise their energy, release tension, and feel more capable in daily life.

We partner with social prescribing teams, community wellbeing services, local authorities, youth settings, WorkWell pathways, and voluntary-sector organisations to widen access to preventative, non-clinical support.

How We Support People

Our sessions are practical, gentle, and accessible for all abilities.

  • Group sessions: ease tension, settle the body, and help people feel calmer and more focused.

  • 1:1 support: tailored tools for those experiencing stress, overwhelm, or low energy.

  • Workshops & micro-practices: clear explanations of how breath and movement shape stress and recovery, with simple tools to use at home.

  • Training for staff: giving teams safe, effective physiology skills they can use in everyday interactions.

Who We Support

People experiencing stress, fatigue, reduced confidence, musculoskeletal discomfort, sleep difficulties, or barriers to work, learning, or participation.

Referrals come from GPs and social prescribers, WorkWell coaches, youth workers, schools, local authorities, and voluntary-sector partners.

Matt, Talking Therapist

“These sessions were incredibly informative and clearly grounded in evidence. The techniques have helped me ease stress, settle into my day more positively, and stay more aware of my breathing in both work and daily life. I’ve noticed improvements in my sleep, and even on difficult nights the practices have been genuinely supportive. A valuable experience that’s strengthened my wellbeing and the way I work.”

Ingrid, Specialist Case Manager

“This course offered a much-needed space to focus on my own wellbeing. The weekly themes built on each other clearly, with plenty of time to practise the techniques at our own pace. I valued the calm, well-researched approach, and the mix of staff attending made the experience even richer. The sessions have helped me become more aware of my breathing and better able to support my own mental and physical health.”
