Workforce Capacity Programme

Changing how teams respond to pressure, recover, and function across the day

Designed for teams working in ongoing demand, this programme supports how staff regulate under pressure, maintain focus, and recover across the working day.

The focus is on what sits underneath how people function, how the body responds to ongoing demand, and how that response can be supported as it happens.

Grounded in physiological science, the programme introduces simple breath and movement strategies that integrate directly into everyday work.

These are not separate practices, but practical tools used between tasks, during conversations, or as pressure begins to build.

What’s Included

The programme runs over a series of live, facilitator-led sessions across 4–6 weeks, supported by three months of Small Shifts membership.

Sessions combine clear explanation with practical application, with space to experience the shifts directly and begin using them in everyday work.

Alongside the sessions, a nominated team member is trained as an internal facilitator, supporting continuity beyond the programme through guided resources and simple session structures.

Evaluation is integrated throughout, using brief pre and post engagement surveys and a concise impact summary, providing useful organisational insight while remaining proportionate to the setting.

What changes

Staff develop practical ways to regulate under pressure, maintain clearer focus, reduce unnecessary physical tension, and recover more reliably between periods of demand.

Built on small, repeatable shifts that fit into real working days, these changes hold over time rather than relying on one off effort.

Delivered live online and designed to integrate with existing workflows, the programme fits a range of settings including healthcare teams, primary care networks, and professional services.

It works within the realities of busy environments, rather than sitting separately from them.

Practical, non-clinical support that fits into real working lives, supported by NHS-based evaluation showing reductions in stress and improvements in sleep.

Zara, Health & Wellbeing

Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation

“Some of the highest engagement we’ve seen across the Trust. Staff in high-pressure roles made time for it, and reported feeling better able to manage stress and stay present during demanding days. By the end, they were recommending it to colleagues and using the techniques with patients.”

Alex, Wellbeing Team

Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust

“This gave staff a clear, science-based understanding of how breath supports stress regulation and focus. The techniques were simple to use straight away, and staff have already begun sharing them with colleagues and patients.”
